Environment & Conservation Division (ECD) Leading national efforts to protect Solomon Islands’ environment, biodiversity, and natural resources. Mandate & Role The Environment & Conservation Division is the Government’s central agency responsible for environmental protection, conservation management, climate resilience, and sustainable development oversight.

The Division provides trusted updates on environmental issues, national policies, and collaborative efforts with partners across the country. ECD works to ensure that Solomon Islands’ natural heritage is safeguarded through policy development, environmental monitoring, community engagement, and partnerships with NGOs, donors, and provincial governments.

Key Functions • Environmental Governance — Oversight of national environmental laws, regulations, and compliance • Conservation Management — Protection of ecosystems, species, and biodiversity hotspots • Climate Resilience — Supporting adaptation, mitigation, and community resilience • Environmental Impact Assessments — Reviewing development projects to ensure sustainability • Community & Partner Engagement — Working with stakeholders to promote environmental stewardship ECD’s work supports both national development and long term environmental sustainability.
