Solomon Islands Red Cross Society is established by an Act of the Solomon Islands National Parliament – Solomon Islands Red Cross Society Act of June 9th, 1983.
It is the only Red Cross National Society officially recognized in the country to work voluntarily, as an auxiliary to the humanitarian work of the public authorities during peacetimes, wars or natural disasters. The Society is independent and its voluntary nature shall be respected at all times and in accordance with the resolution relative to National Red Cross/ Red Crescent Societies adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on the 19th November 1946.
The SI Red Cross Society continues to perform its humanitarian activities in peace time by preparing vulnerable people, communities, and its staff and volunteers to respond well to the effects of disasters. Not only to natural disasters but including situations of violence, wars and diseases.
