The Office of the Ombudsman is an independent office established under Section 96 of the National Constitution and has been in operation since 1981. As an administrative watchdog of the Government, it plays the oversight role of ensuring that the Government is fair when providing services to the people of the Solomon Islands.
The Ombudsman is mandated under Section 97 (1) of the Constitution with the following core functions:
Apart from this, the Ombudsman is also mandated under section 97 (2) of the Constitution to perform other additional functions that the Parliament confers on him.
